From sunscreen to sippy cups.
The range of our brands is really quite impressive, but perhaps even more impressive are the many ways they make people’s lives better: the ability to game for 14 hours straight on your flight to Sydney; to prevent a mess, even after your toddler drops her apple juice; to give a close, smooth shave that actually takes care of your skin. Inventive from the very beginning.
Not surprisingly, the origins of Energizer Holdings trace back to a couple of inventors. Back in 1896, a man named W.H. Lawrence created the first consumer battery to power home telephones. Weighing over three pounds, it was a big breakthrough in more ways than one. Two years later, a Russian immigrant named Conrad Hubert was using these batteries to power his electric hand torch – the first flashlight. In 1905, the two innovators decided to get together to form what was then known as The American Ever Ready Company. The company has maintained this same pioneering spirit ever since.[PAGEBREAK]
A parent is born.
Cut to nearly a century later, in 2000, when the parent company Energizer Holdings, Inc. was created. Within three short years we ventured into personal care products by acquiring Schick® Wilkinson Sword® razors.
From then on, we’ve only picked up speed: we expanded into skin care and feminine and infant care with the purchase of Playtex® Products in 2007. We deepened our shaving brands with the addition of Edge® and Skintimate® in 2009 and American Safety Razor in 2011. Most recently, we acquired CAREFREE® liners, STAYFREE® pads, and o.b.® tampons in 2013.
Through it all there has been one constant: a continued emphasis on innovation – from the launch of the Schick Hydro® razor to the Energizer® Inductive Charger. And we’re just getting warmed up.
