Social
Looking out for one another.
“We are a company of caring people, we really are… We see ourselves as leaders in the community.”
– Paul D., Manager, Product Design EPC, U.S.
It’s true. We are a company of thoughtful, caring people and the social focus of our sustainability efforts reflects this. There is a high degree of participation in all levels of community support from our Energizer Charitable Trust to hundreds of colleague-led grassroots programs, Brand Partnerships focused on community activities, and volunteer efforts around the world.
We are also committed to providing a safe working environment in our offices and manufacturing facilities across the globe have received numerous awards and certifications for our safety efforts.
And of course, through all interactions, we promote the highest conduct standards for our colleagues, Board of Directors and suppliers. We are open and honest with one another and those we deal with.
A growing trust.
The flagship of our efforts, the Energizer Charitable Trust, is a program that helps kids and young adults in underserved communities across the United States, and also helps those affected by natural disasters across the globe.[PAGEBREAK] The Trust directs funds into three specific areas. First, we support the United Way campaigns and all the communities where we do business in the United States.
Second, we provide a Matching Gift Program that empowers U.S. employees to make a greater difference in causes of their choosing by matching their donated amount dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 a year per colleague.
The third focus funds grant requests that we receive from organizations within the United States.
In recent years, the Trust has also extended its reach to help those affected by natural disasters across the globe, supporting efforts in Japan, Chile, China and Myanmar through donations to the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. Making a difference makes us different.
“I’ve always been struck by how involved and engaged our colleagues tend to be. There’s just a huge amount of passion and enthusiasm for helping out organizations in their respective communities.”
– Buff B., HR Director, Finance, Controllership, IT, U.S.
If you are the kind of person who enjoys making a difference, you’ll feel right at home here. That’s because many of our colleagues are very active with charities of their own choosing. Our colleague engagements include:
• Big Brother programs • Ocean Conservancy’s Coastal Cleanup • Donations to U.S. troops and disaster victims • Outreach to local schools • Food and toy drives • Local soup kitchens • Tree Planting Days • HQ Weekly “Jeans Days” for donations
In addition, our colleagues are also active in many of the partnership programs our Brands participate in around the world including Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, UNICEF Light Up Africa, Habitat for Humanity, and Techo Para Mi Pais.
There’s safety in our numbers. We care about our people. And our social efforts reflect that, too. Which is why we have the lowest injury rates in our industries. In fact, Energizer Household Products has an injury rate of 1.30, compared to an industry rate of 5.0. Energizer Personal Care has an equally low injury rate of 1.14. Moreover, in the U.S., Energizer Holdings has been recognized by the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). To put that in context, out of 15 million workplaces in the U.S., just 2,300 have earned VPP recognition. We have six VPP-Star facilities:
• Bennington, VT • St. Albans, VT • Milford, CT • Asheboro One, NC • Asheboro Two, NC • Maryville, MO
And it doesn’t end there. Energizer Holdings has also earned ISO certifications and local safety awards at several of its global locations:
• Guangzhou, China – ISO Safety Management (ISO 18001) • Sonca, China – 2010 Work Safety Standardization with second class from China Association of Work Safety (CAWS) • Solingen, Germany – ISO Safety Management (ISO 18001)
Integrity is the key.
“…We make the Codes of Conduct applicable globally and we think that’s brought a lot of strength and really brought a lot of the best talent to Energizer.”
– Stephanie Z., Senior Employee Benefits & Labor Counsel, U.S.
For us, it all comes down to integrity. So through all levels of interactions, we promote the highest conduct standards for our colleagues, Board of Directors and suppliers.
We are open and honest with one another and those we deal with, and act ethically in all business matters. The ‘codes of conduct’ reflect our belief in integrity, ethics, respect and collaboration. And these codes of conduct are applicable equally globally, ensuring a consistent work culture and environment no matter where you go or which office you visit.
